About Album:

Mjava Message was a multimedia project by Georgian artists. It was the result of a great friendship, a story that would eventually lead to the creation of the Goslab collective. In the 90’s, after leaving his group Mother on Mondays, Gogi Dzodzuashvili began working on his solo music. It was during this period that the idea of making a conceptual album with Nika Machaidze and Maya Sumbadze was born, as it was decided that the record should include lyrics from both of them. Soon they were joined by Gio Sumbadze and Nino Chubinishvili and here starts the story of an album that takes us all the way back to the first stages of Georgian electronic music.

This was starting point for the long music career of Nika Machaidze (Nikakoi), who accidentally encountered some early computer software and somehow managed get strange sounds out of it. Gogi Dzodzuashvili’s harmonic music vision began to interact with Nikakoi’s  experimental manipulations of different sound objects, leading to an important audio artifact of 90’s Tbilisi. In addition to its musical ideas, the album is important for its use of unique methods for social commentary, using mixed Georgian-English texts that are still relevant to a new generation of Georgian artists.

What Does Tbilisi Sound Like? –  Mjava Message used Western musical forms and approaches to create sounds that evoked a sense of the city of Tbilisi – still unique and ultimately a game changing point for Georgian music. “Mjava Message was born out of Love” – recalls Gogi Dzodzuashvili. This love for friends and music was the main ingredient in their collaborative album, which still serves as a foundation for Georgian electronic music and conceptual Art.
